Tajik, Kyrgyz topographic working groups hold meeting in Bishkek

A meeting of Tajik and Kyrgyz topographic working groups has taken place in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek.   As before, the details of the meeting were not disclosed.

The Tajik MFA information department meeting just said that the meeting took place in Bishkek from May 25 to from May 30.  The meeting was reportedly held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding.  The next meeting of the topographic working groups will take place in Tajikistan.

Recall, the previous meeting of the topographic working groups of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan was held in Dushanbe last month.  The delegations discussed delimitation and demarcation of the mutual border.  An appropriate protocol was signed as a result of the meeting.

Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed on the need to speed up the process of delimitation and demarcation of the common border and intensify the work of the joint commission on delimitation and demarcation of the common border.

The Kyrgyz Foreign ministry’s press service says this issue was discussed at a meeting of the newly appointed Kyrgyz Ambassador to Tajikistan Erlan Abdyldayev at a meeting with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin after an a ceremony of presenting a copy of credentials that took place on May 6.

During the meeting, the parties reportedly discussed a number of issues related to the state and prospects of further expansion of political, economic and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries as well as protection of rights of citizens and border and inter-regional collaboration.

A special attention was reportedly given to the issue of delimitation and demarcation of the disputed segments of the common and intensification of the work of the joint commission for delineation of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border.

Recall, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said in an exclusive interview with Kabar news agency on April 25 that, “The issue of delineation of common border with Tajikistan has not been removed, it is being solved.  The issue of delimitation and demarcation of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border is being solved slowly and both sides will not be able to put up a fence until the disputes are resolved,” Kyrgyz President.  According to him, the parties have agreed on 600 kilometers [of the mutual border] and they have another 300 kilometers left to delimit and demarcate.

Meanwhile, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has called on residents of the Tajik northern district of Isfara bordering Kyrgyzstan to live and work with their neighbors in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and neighborliness, communicate with them and establish friendly cooperation, be tolerant and not succumb to emotions.

His call, directed at residents of Isfara, came during an address to a meeting of Isfara administrators and public activists that took place in the northern city of Isfara on April 17.  He further noted that solution of border-territorial issues, delimitation and demarcation of disputed segments of the border are a very complex process and take a lot of time and require many efforts.
