KHUJAND, March 10, Asia-Plus – An operation by the Sughd law enforcement agencies has led to catch of a large store of literature and leaflets of the outlawed religious extremist “Hizb ut-Tahrir” organization in the Bobojonghafurov district.  

According to information from the Sughd police directorate, a 38-year-old resident of the Qistaquz jamoat (community) was detained in the operation.  “The detainee’s name is not disclosed in the interest of the investigation,” the source said, noting that police suppose that since 2000, the detainee had held different positions in the Hizb ut-Tahrir network in northern

.  “In 2004, he was charged to act as aide to the head of party’s regional cell,” said the Asia-Plus interlocutor, “He controlled preparation and spread of leaflets and other subversive literature of the Hizb ut-Tahrir party.”  

When searching his house police found some 40 books, 700 leaflets as well 300 copies of semi-finished literature and office equipment, according to the source.

The Sughd regional prosecutor’s office has instituted criminal proceedings against the detainee.
