British Ambassador launches water supply project in Tajik capital

, March 13, Asia-Plus — On Monday March 13, Mr. Graeme Loten, British Ambassador to


Tajikistan


, participated in the opening ceremony of a project designed to supply water to the school and community at Buston [formerly Qarotegin] in


Dushanbe


According to information from the U.K. Embassy in Dushanbe, the project had been implemented by the NGO “Bonuvoni Navovar” under the supervision of the international humanitarian organization CARITAS with funds from the British Embassy.  As a result of the project 100 pupils of school no 63 and over fifty households from Buston Community are being provided with potable water.  This should decrease the number of infectious diseases and improve the sanitary-hygienic conditions in the school. The cost of the project amounted to about $7,000.

“Water is so important to meet our daily needs, as the Government of Tajikistan has rightly highlighted with its program ‘Water for Life” said the British Ambassador, Mr. Loten. “It is therefore a great pleasure that we have been able to play a small part in this project alongside both local and international organizations in providing a secure supply of water for the people of Buston.”

 The funding for this project has come from the British Embassy”s Small Grants Scheme, which supports projects in spheres such as education, human rights, mass media and assistance to the basic needs of poor communities in
