DUSHANBE, March 6, 2009, Asia-Plus – International relief organization, Mission East, yesterday handed over 40,000 US dollars worth of diving equipment to the rescue team at the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES).
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the head of the CES international cooperation department Mahmadi Mehtojev said that the donation included winter and summer diving suits, gum boat and other diving equipment that would make work of rescuers easier.
Mission East is a Danish international relief and development organization, which works to help the vulnerable through humanitarian relief aid, development assistance and support to increasing capacity of communities to organize and assist themselves. Mission East works in response to community needs, primarily in the areas of public health, livelihoods improvement and food security. Mission East operates in Armenia, Afghanistan and Tajikistan and co-operates with local partners in Bulgaria, Nepal and Romania.
In Tajikistan, Mission East has worked since 1997. Mission East”s strategy in Tajikistan focuses on improving livelihoods for vulnerable households and communities, with a particular emphasis on community mobilization and community management. Current programming focuses on the strengthening of the civil society structures to ensure self management and development sustainability.
