and “Russian Aluminum” (RusAl) have almost come to an agreement on the height of the Roghun dam, Tajik Energy Minister Jurabek Nurmahmadov remarked at a news conference in


Dushanbe


on April 20.  

“At present the sides are close to reach an agreement, and most likely will settle on the height of 305 meters (with use of five generators), which will allow observing interests of both sides,” Nurmahmadov said, reminding that earlier Tajikistan had instated on a 335-meter dam, while RusAl had insisted on the dam being 280 meters in height.  

At present experts from RusAl and the Energy Ministry are discussing the type of the dam, according to the minister.  Nurmahmadov expressed hope that the sides would reach compromise on that issue.

insists on the fill dam, while RusAl proposes to build the concrete dam.  In January this year, Nurmahmadov told journalists that the Tajik side had already designed a 335-metre high fill dam, which had successfully passed all kinds of tests.
