DUSHANBE, November 11, 2010, Asia-Plus — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has completed its grant project to help Tajikistan Government improve its investment promotion and private sector development, according to the ADB Tajikistan Resident Mission (TJRM).
The $2 million technical assistance grant was co-financed by the Government of the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID). The project was implemented over three years from October 2007 to October 2010.
“The Government has identified private sector development as a strategic development priority for Tajikistan,” said Joji Tokeshi, ADB’s Country Director for Tajikistan. “And ADB is proud of being a partner in supporting private sector development.”
The project provided policy advice and capacity building activities to improve organizational structure and potential for better investment attraction and promotion. It also strengthened institutional and staff capacity of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management, the executing agency for the project, and helped develop comprehensive professional promotional materials, comprising sector and regional investment maps, and investors’ guide.
In addition, the project equipped the State Committee for Investments and State-owned Property Management with office hardware, software and furniture to enhance its staff efficiency.
“Throughout the project, a team of international and local experts worked with the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management to help making it a high-profile investment promotion agency,” Qahhor Aminov, ADB’s Economist, said.
ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. In 2009, it approved a total of $16.1 billion in financing operations through loans, grants, guarantees, a trade finance facilitation program, equity investments, and technical assistance projects. ADB also mobilized cofinancing amounting to $3.2 billion.
