KHUJAND, November 2, 2010, Asia-Plus — This year, the European Week 2010 did not limit itself with Dushanbe.  Cultural events, including Theatre play and art-residence program are taking placing in northern Tajikistan as well.

In Sughd province, the European Week started on November 1 and runs until November 9.

Ambassador Eduard Auer, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan, told reporters in Khujand yesterday that the event aims to bring the European Union and Tajikistan closer together.

In Sughd, an exhibition of works by painters is organized and the theatre play “The Confession” will be shown in the cities of Khujand, Chkalovsk and Taboshar.

We will recall that the European Week was held in Dushanbe from October 18 to October 24.    It presented works of European cultures to the Tajik public. A number of stands of the European Union Member states as well as different European institutions presented various information about the European Union countries and their cultures, including wide presentation on education opportunities.  Five recent award winning European films from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands as well as Lithuania were screened at the Jomi Cinema.

The European Week is an important tool to increase awareness of current relations between the European Union and the Republic of Tajikistan explaining in more detail the role of the EU in Tajikistan and EU integration process in the Tajik society. This year, the European Week”s theme is “Closer to Europe”.
