DUSHANBE, July 30, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The Government of Tajikistan is currently considering the issue of handing over part of Tajik power systems to open-joint stock company (OJSC), Sangtudinskaya GES-1, which operates the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant, Abdullo Yorov, the head of Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik electricity supplier), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the pilot project, developed by Barqi Tojik and Sangtudinskaya GES-1, provides for handover of power systems of the city of Norak and a 220kW substation to the Russian-Tajik company.  Under this project, Sangtudinskaya GES-1 acts a bulk buyer of Tajik electric power with further selling of it to consumers, Yorov said, noting that the project will be lunched only after endorsement by the government.

Meanwhile, the Sangtudinskaya GES-1 director general Aleksandr Belov told Asia-Plus that many of the company specialists had worked with RAO YeES and had good experience in that direction.  “Our specialists have been engaged in solving problems of the collection of funds during ten years and they have good experience in creating automated systems that allow efficiently collecting funds for electricity consumption,” he said.

Russian-Tajik OJSC Sangtudinskaya GES-1 was established to complete the construction of the Santuda-1 power plant.  Russia’s Inter RAO YeES and the Ministry of Energy and Industries of Tajikistan signed an agreement on the establishment of the company in Dushanbe on February 16, 2005.
