DUSHANBE, February 19, 2009, Asia-Plus — Open joint-stock company (OJSC) Agroinvestbonk has been recognized as the most active bank in Tajikistan in trade finance in 2008 under the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s (EBRD) trade Facilitation Program (TFP), according to Agroinvestbonk’s press service.
In 2005, the bank was recognized as the most active bank in Tajikistan under TFP and in 2006 and 2007, Agroinvestbonk was recognized as the most active bank in Tajikistan in regional trade development under TFP, the press service said.
Founded in 1992, Agroinvestbonk, with headquarters in Dushanbe, has main branches in Khorog, Khujand, Kulob and Qurghon Teppa and 61 other branches across the republic.
Launched in January 1999, the EBRD”s Trade Facilitation Program promotes foreign trade with central and eastern Europe and the CIS. Through the program, the EBRD provides guarantees to international confirming banks. In so doing, it takes the political and commercial payment risk of transactions undertaken by issuing banks in the countries where the EBRD operates. The program can guarantee any genuine trade transaction associated with exports from, imports to, and between the EBRD”s countries of operations. As of end 2008, 115 banks and factoring companies from 19 countries of operations are accredited. Over 650 foreign and regional banks in 77 countries participate in the Program as confirming banks.
