DUSHANBE, May 18, 2010, Asia-Plus  — President Emomali Rahmon today morning received Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Mu”allem who arrived in Dushanbe to attend the 37th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Member States, according to presidential press service.

In the course of the talks, the sides discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Syria.  They, in particular, touched upon the issue of implementation of agreements that were reached during President Rahmon’s visit to Syria.

The sides pointed to the necessity of expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in order to ensure rational use of broad potential and resources, the press service said.

Mr. Walid Al-Mu’allem noted that the holding of the 37th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers in Dushanbe was a good sign of expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Muslim countries.

Emomali Rahmon and Walid Mu’allem also discussed a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest, including the current situation in Afghanistan and Middle East.

Tajik president conveyed to the Syrian foreign minister an invitation for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to pay an official visit to Tajikistan.
