DUSHANBE, February 17, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha met with Mr. Enrico Ponziani, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission in Moscow, at the SCTO Secretariat Office in Moscow on February 16.

According to the SCTO Secretariat, the two discussed a broad range of issues related to interaction between the CSTO and the IOM in countering illegal migration and trafficking in human beings.

In the course of the talks, Mr. Bordyuzha briefed the IOM chief of mission of activity of CSTO council of heads of competent bodies countering illegal migration and joint efforts taken by the organization member nations in fighting illegal migration and human trafficking.

For his part, Mr. Ponziani noted that the IOM Mission in Moscow was ready to participate in conducting comparative legal analysis of the CSTO states’ laws on fighting illegal migration and human trafficking for compliance of them with international law requirements, press release issued by the CSTO Secretariat said.

The sides also hailed the positive results of implementation of the Protocol of cooperation between the CSTO Secretariat and the IOM administration, signed in July 2006.
