KHOROG, April 10, 2010, Asia-Plus  — One person was killed and at least 10 others were injured Thursday (April 8) as three vehicles collided in Khorog, the capital of Gorno Badakhshan.

Ms. Umeda Nusayriyeva, a senior inspector with the information department of the GBAO police directorate, told Asia-Plus that the accident took place in the evening on the way from Khorog to airport.

According to her, three vehicles, including two fixed-route minivans, were involved in the crash when Azam Mingbayev, an officer from the Khorog special police unit, could not control his Toyota and went into oncoming traffic.

As a result of the collision, the 7th grade student from Khorog School # 6 Palla Zavrqibekov died on the spot and ten other passengers of the minivans, including eight schoolchildren, were injured and taken to the regional hospital in Khorog.  The cause of the accident is under investigation.

In the meantime, Farrukh Dodikhudoyev, a physician with the casualty department of the GBAO regional hospital, says two of those ten injured are in serious health condition.
