DUSHANBE, April 9, 2010, Asia-Plus — The latest developments in neighboring Kyrgyzstan will not impact the situation in Tajikistan considerably, because our republic has leaned from bitter experience of a five-year civil war, Muhiddin Kabiri, leader of the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRPT), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, Central Asia’s leaders must learn a lesson from the Kyrgyz events. “They should realize that they cannot ignore their peoples’ opinion,” said Kabiri, “Concentration of all financial resources in the hands of one person, corruption and regionalism will lead to no good and the latest developments in Kyrgyzstan have demonstrated that.”
He further added, “If some Central Asia’s leaders do not change their policy they will share the fate of Askar Akayev and Kurmanbek Bakiyev.”
He expressed hope that citizens of Tajikistan would make valid inferences about the Kyrgyz events and would prevent unrest and bloodshed in their homeland.
