Large amount of mineral fertilizers smuggled into Sughd out of Kyrgyzstan seized yesterday

DUSHANBE, April 9, 2010, Asia-Plus — A large consignment of mineral fertilizers that was smuggled into Tajikistan out of Kyrgyzstan was seized in Sughd province yesterday, according to the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan.

“Nineteen heavy trucks KAMAZ loaded with mineral fertilizers (79,500 kilograms of carbamide and 72,500 kilograms of saltpeter) were detained in the Spitamen district on April 8,” the source said, noting that the contraband mineral fertilizers were confiscated.

Over the first three months of this year, customs officers have transferred more than 5.4 million somoni to the country’s budget, he said.
