DUSHANBE, March 15, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Nasrullo Mahmoudov, candidate from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT), has won elections to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) in Konibodom single-mandate constituency # 19.

We will recall that since none of the contenders managed to win a absolute majority during the first round, the second round of voting was held in the Konibodom constituency on March 14.

The PDPT member Nasrullo Mahmoudov and candidate of the Social-Democratic Party (SDPT) Shokirjon Hakimov competed in the second round in the Konibodom constituency.  Mahmoudov reportedly won 55 percent of votes and Hakimov won 42 percent of votes.

Thus, PDPT won elections in 39 single-mandate constituencies and two other seats in the single-mandate constituencies were split between the Agrarian Party (APT) and the Party of Economic Reforms.

In all, PDPT won 55 seats out of 63 in the Majlisi Namoyandagon.  The results mean little changed from the previous parliament where PDPT held 57 seats.
