KHUJAND, March 4, 2010, Asia-Plus — Organizations for the Communist (CPT) and Islamic Revival (IRPT) parties for Sughd say numerous irregularities, including cases of bias of local election officials in favor of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT), took place during elections to the Sughd regional legislature.
The Sughd regional electoral commission Naim Malikislomov says the commission received two other complaints from CPT and IRPT on March 2.
According to him, CPT member Soli Burhonov, who ran for the regional legislature in Konibodom constituency # 20, says he got votes more than his contender from PDPT, Asroriddin Shokirov, but Shokirov was announced winner.
“Similar complaint was submitted to the commission by Naim Samiyev, head of the IRPT organization in Sughd,” said Malikislomov, “Samiyev competed for a seat in the regional legislature with PDPT member Vahhob Nabiyev in Isfara constituency # 10.” Samiyev also states that he got votes more than the PDPT representative.
The electoral commission head said that it was outside the commission’s competence to consider such complaints and advised Burhonov and Samiyev to file suits in courts.
In all, 132 candidates competed for 67 seats in the Sughd regional legislature and the ruling PDPT that got 62 seats controls 92.5 percent of seats in the Sughd regional council.
