DUSHANBE, February 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Focus Humanitarian Assistance (FOCUS) has organized computer and English language courses for the specialists of governmental institutions of Tajikistan.

According to FOCUS Dushanbe Office, it within the framework of the DIPECHO project “Fostering Disaster Resilient Communities in Isolated Mountain Environments” funded by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Department (ECHO), beginning this year, has been conducting computer and English language courses for the staff of the local government institutions working in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction in Tajikistan.

The primary objective of these courses is to enhance knowledge of the English language as well as computer skills that the specialists will use in their work. These computer and English language courses are conducted by the School of Professional and Continuing Education of the University of Central Asia.

In Dushanbe these courses are conducted for the specialists employed by the Committee of Emergency Situation and Civil Defense and the Head Agency of Geology under the Government of Tajikistan.

In Khorog the courses are organized for the specialists from the Hydro-Meteorological Observatory of Khorog town and the Committee of Emergency Situation and Civil Defense of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

These courses last four month and at the end of them subject students successfully passing the final exam will receive certificates from the University of Central Asia. 

Since 2003, FOCUS in Tajikistan has been the implementing partner of the DIPECHO project in GBAO. FOCUS conducts comprehensive community-based disaster risk reduction initiatives throughout GBAO and provides capacity building programs for local government institutions working in the field of Disaster Management.
