DUSHANBE, February 11, 2009, Asia-Plus — In 2008, Tajikistan stood in the second place among the CIS states in terms of making residential buildings available following Kyrgyzstan, according to the CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics.

During January-December 2008, an overall space of 652,500 square meters in residential buildings was made available in Tajikistan, which was 11.9 percent more than in 2007.

In Kyrgyzstan, the overall space of 821,800 square meters in residential buildings was made available last year, which was 18.9 percent more than in 2007.  

In Belarus, the overall space of 5.147 million sq m in residential buildings was made available over the report period (10.3 percent increase compared to 2007), Armenia – 515,200 sq m (9.8 percent increase), Azerbaijan – 1.557 million sq m (8.6 percent increase), Moldova – 378,500 sq m (8.0 percent increase), and Ukraine – 6.483 million sq m (5.8 percent increase).

In the meantime, 6.832 million sq m in residential buildings were made available in Kazakhstan last year, which was 2.0 percent fewer compared to 2007, Uzbekistan – 6.083 million sq m (4.3 percent decrease), and Russia – 63.762 million sq m (4.5 percent decrease).
