DUSHANBE, February 5, 2010, Asia-Plus — A meeting of Turkey’s Council for Foreign Economic Affairs took place in Ankara on February 4, according to the Tajik Embassy in Ankara.
The meeting participants included chiefs of a number of diplomatic missions, chairmen of bilateral business councils and heads of a number of Turkish ministries and companies.
Speaking a the meeting, Tajik Ambassador to Turkey Shuhrat Sultonov acquainted those present with state and prospects of further expansion of Tajik-Turkish economic cooperation, measures taken by the Tajik government to improve the investment climate in the country and support foreign investments.
In his statement, Tajik diplomat paid special attention to energy cooperation and underlined the importance of the construction of the Roghun HPP.
According to him, during President Abdullah Gul’s official visit to Tajikistan in May 2009 it was stated that Turkish companies are ready to take an active part in implementation of energy projects. In August and December last year, representatives of a number of Turkish companies visited Tajikistan and got acquainted with a number of projects.
According to Sultonov, besides participation in construction of a number of small and medium-sized hydropower plants and rehabilitation of the Qairoqqum and Varzob HPPs, Turkey’s TEMACH plans to launch a joint venture in Tajikistan for production of turbines for small and medium-sized power plants. Besides, negotiations are under way with Turkish company, CAHCET, on launching a joint venture for producing transformers converting solar energy into electrical energy. Turkey’s BEYSA Group is preparing proposals on launching joint venture in Tajikistan for producing solar heating collectors and coal-fired steam generators.
Sultonov called on Turkish companies to work more actively in Tajikistan that would promote further expansion of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey.
