KHUJAND, January 27, 2010, Asia-Plus — Another ten members of the outlawed extremist religious Hizb ut-Tahrir organization in the northern Sughd province have got long jail terms. They are residents of the city of Khujand and the H. Usmon jamoat in the Bobojonghafurov district.
The Khujand city court recently ruled that they be given prison terms between 8½ and 15½. The sentence followed their conviction on the charges of inciting national racial, regional or religious enmity and calls for the forcible overthrow of or change to the constitutional order in Tajikistan.
The source at the Khujand city court said that verdict has not yet taken effect and one of convicts already appealed against court’s verdict.
