How many veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 are left in Tajikistan?

And how many of them are there in Central Asian countries?

As of February 23 this year, there are only 10 participants of the Great Patriotic War (GPW) of 1941-1945 left in Tajikistan, and only one of them lives in Dushanbe. What are the figures for Central Asia?

As of February 23 of the current year, only one GPW veteran remains in Dushanbe – Bozor Naghzibekov.

In Sughd province: 2 GPW veterans – Nozim Nosirov and Bibola Ruzimatov.

In Khatlon province, there are 6 GPW veterans living: Safarali Faizaliyev, Mashrab Davlatov, Gulmurod Tagoyev, Mirzo Ghafourov, Habib Safarov and Yahyo Mirzoev.

In Hisor: on GPW veteran Rajab Ismonov.

As of May last year, there were 17 war veterans in Tajikistan.

Annually, GPW veterans are given funds for a one-time payment from the Tajik President’s Reserve Fund. Last year, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory, they were awarded 50,000 somoni ($4810) each. Additionally, according to the resolution of the mayor of Dushanbe, Rustam Emomali, each GPW veteran living in the capital received 25,000 somoni ($2405).

How much veterans will receive this year will be known a little later.

Kazakhstan

As of February 1, 2026, 76,059 veterans reside here, including 69 GPW veterans, 16,250 veterans equated to GPW veterans for benefits, 26,626 veterans of military operations in other countries, and 33,114 laborers on the home front during the GPW of 1941-1945. This was reported by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

It is also known that since the beginning of this year, a special state allowance has been paid to these categories of citizens totaling 1.5 billion tenge ($3.24 million). This year, 17.7 billion tenge ($36.06–36.2 million) is allocated for these purposes.

“A monthly special state allowance from the republican budget is paid to all categories of veterans, regardless of receiving other social benefits, in the following amounts:

– GPW veterans – 16 monthly clculated indicoators, or MCIs (in 2026 – 69,200 tenge – $148.52 USD);

– veterans equated to GPW veterans for benefits, including:

– persons equated to persons with disabilities due to injury, concussion, injury, or illness received during the GPW of 1941-1945 – 7.55 MCIs (in 2026 – 32,654 tenge – $70.08 USD);

– persons equated to GPW participants – 6.19 MCIs (in 2026 – 26,772 tenge – $57.46 USD);

– veterans of military operations in other states, including:

– participants in combat operations in Afghanistan – 6.19 MCIs (in 2026 – 26,772 tenge – $57.46 USD);

– military personnel who performed tasks to strengthen the protection of the Tajik-Afghn section of the CIS border, participated in the international peacekeeping operation in Iraq, in the settlement of the interethnic conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh – 4.8 MCIs (in 2026 – 20,760 tenge – $44.56 USD);

– home front workers during the GPW of 1941-1945 – 2.13 MCIs (in 2026 – 9,212 tenge – $19.77 USD),” the Ministry’s website states.

Kyrgyzstan

In this country, as of April 20 this year, there are 24 GPW veterans left, including blockade survivors and concentration camp prisoners, Akipress reports citing the Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration.

Of this number, 8 veterans are war participants. They are distributed across the regions as follows:

Bishkek — 4 people; Jayyl district of Chuy region — 2 people; At-Bashy district of Naryn region — 1 person;
Bazar-Korgon district of Jalal-Abad region — 1 person.

“Additionally, 6 underage concentration camp prisoners live in Kyrgyzstan: 4 in the city of Bishkek, 1 in Jayyl district, and 1 in the city of Jalal-Abad. Furthermore, there are 10 blockade survivors of Leningrad: 8 in Bishkek, 1 in Sokuluk district, and 1 in the city of Balykchy,” Akipress writes.

Regarding payments, according to the decision of President Sadyr Japarov, each GPW veteran will receive a one-time financial assistance of 200,000 soms ($2,287.02 USD). This is reported on the official website of the President of Kyrgyzstan.

Thus, the President’s Fund is instructed to allocate 4,848,000 soms ($55,437.39 USD), considering postal expenses, to the Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration of the KR for the payment of one-time financial assistance in the amount of 200,000 soms to the following categories of WWII veterans:

– participants of the Great Patriotic War;

– persons from the number of underage prisoners of concentration camps, ghettos, and other places of forced detention created by the Nazis and their allies during the GPW of 1941-1945;

– persons who worked in enterprises, institutions, and organizations of the city of Leningrad during the blockade from September 8, 1941, to January 27, 1944, awarded the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad” and persons awarded the sign “Resident of Blockaded Leningrad”.

Uzbekistan

There are no recent data on the number of remaining GPW veterans yet. Last year, there were 82 GPW veterans and persons equated to them living in Uzbekistan, according to gazeta.uz.

However, it is already known that on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance and Honor, each participant and invalid of the GPW of 1941-1945 will receive a one-time payment of 30 million soms (about $2,500). This was announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on April 16 this year at a meeting on preparing for the May 9 holiday.

“In addition, on this day, special attention and honor will be given to war participants, labor front veterans, the older generation, and mentors, the housing of lonely and low-income veterans will be improved, and various commemorative and festive events will be held. The memory of the loyal sons of the Motherland who died in the line of duty during the years of independence will also be immortalized. Their families will be provided with material and moral support,” states the website of the President of Uzbekistan.

No fresh official data is available for Turkmenistan.
