On April 28, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, met with the U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor. The parties discussed a wide range of issues concerning the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation, including the economy, trade, investment, and security.

As reported by the press service of the head of state, special attention was paid to the implementation of agreements reached within the framework of the “Central Asia — U.S. (C5+1)” dialogue. During the conversation, it was noted that the United States is among the top five leading investment partners of Tajikistan. The President of Tajikistan emphasized the importance of actively utilizing the opportunities provided by the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA).

He highlighted the significant potential of the country in areas such as hydropower, mining and processing of minerals, as well as light, food, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. The parties acknowledged practical cooperation in these fields as mutually beneficial. Rahmon stressed Tajikistan’s interest in deepening ties with the United States in these and other promising areas.

“Tajikistan and the U.S. have shared interests in ensuring security and developing economic cooperation,” said Sergio Gor, emphasizing that Tajikistan remains a focus for the U.S.

Special attention in the negotiations was given to the prospects for the development of artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and the economy, as well as the creation of joint ventures for processing agricultural products for export. All these areas were recognized as important for strengthening bilateral relations and attracting investments.

At a press conference following the meeting, Sergio Gor noted that Tajikistan and the U.S. have common interests, especially in the fight against terrorism and countering external threats. These issues were also discussed during the meeting with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

“U.S. President Donald Trump highly appreciates the contribution of the President of Tajikistan to ensuring stability in the country and the region,” said Gor.

The special envoy also reported that the U.S. delegation is on a two-day official visit to Dushanbe. During the visit, a series of meetings were held to discuss issues of combating terrorism and external threats, as well as expanding cooperation in the field of security.

The importance of the meeting between the leaders of the two countries in Washington was also noted, which is seen as an important step in the development of bilateral relations.

“The parties expressed their readiness to further strengthen relations and elevate bilateral cooperation to a new level,” concluded Gor.
