The Prosecutor-General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan has approved the indictment in the criminal case against the former head of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), Kamchybek Tashiyev. According Kaktus.media, Tashiyev’s lawyer Ikramidin Aitkulov reported this on his social media page.

According to the lawyer, Tashiyev is accused of preparing for a violent seizure of power and abuse of office. The case has already been transferred to the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek for substantive consideration. There are a total of eight defendants in the case, including Tashiyev himself.

The lawyer claims that the case materials are classified, and the court hearings will be held in a closed session, with the disclosure of investigation and trial data being prohibited.

It was previously reported that Tashiyev, along with other defendants in the case, former Prosecutor-General Kurmankul Zulushev and former Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, was summoned to the Interior Ministry Main Investigative Department for questioning, which lasted several hours.

After the interrogation, the former Kyrgyz security boss reportedly declared his innocence, stating that he is “clean before the law” and intends to defend himself within the legal framework.

Later, it became known about repeated interrogations of Tashiyev and others, as well as the charges against the former head of the SCNS under articles related to the violent seizure or retention of power and abuse of office.

Official bodies do not disclose information about Kamchybek Tashiyev’s case.

According to sources in law enforcement agencies, the investigation is related to the so-called “Letter of 75”. In February, it became known that 75 people sent an appeal to President Sadyr Japarov and the Jokorku Kenesh (Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament) Speaker (Toraga), calling for early presidential elections.

After this, Kamchybek Tashiyev was dismissed from the position of head of the GKNB and deputy head of the Cabinet; a reorganization of the GKNB was conducted; a number of high-ranking officials lost their positions; Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu resigned as speaker of parliament and gave up his parliament member mandate; Kurmankul Zulushev also gave up his parliament member mandate.
