The US has once again struck military targets in Iran after President Donald Trump refuted reports of a possible agreement on the Strait of Hormuz. Reuters reported this citing an American official.
According to the source, the US military destroyed four Iranian strike drones and also attacked a ground control station in the port city of Bandar Abbas. It is claimed that the facility was preparing to launch another drone, which, according to Washington, posed a threat to American military and commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
These events occurred a few hours after Trump’s statement that the US is not satisfied with Iran’s proposals for a peaceful settlement.
The American president also once again threatened to resume strikes on Iran, emphasizing that Tehran is interested in reaching an agreement.
Meanwhile, the Iranian agency “Tasnim,” citing a military source, reported that the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps opened fire on an American oil tanker trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, after which the vessel was forced to change course. According to the source, in response, American forces struck the area near Bandar Abbas. There are reportedly no casualties or destruction.
Earlier, Iranian state television reported receiving a draft informal framework agreement between Tehran and Washington to resolve the conflict. According to the draft, Iran was supposed to restore commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to pre-war levels within a month, and the US was to withdraw troops from areas around Iran and lift the naval blockade.
Iranian television noted that the document has not yet been finalized, and Tehran will not take any steps without “real verification.” It was also reported that if a final agreement is reached within 60 days, it could be formalized as a binding UN Security Council resolution.
The White House rejected these reports, calling them “absolute fabrication.” Trump himself stated that the Strait of Hormuz should be opened immediately and cannot be under anyone’s control.
