DUSHANBE, October 19, 2009, Asia-Plus — Electricity and cotton fiber remain main items of Tajikistan’s exports.
In January-September this year, Tajikistan has exported 3.763 billion kWh of electricity for 55.9 million U.S. dollars, according to the State Committee for Statistics.
Over the report period, Tajikistan has imported 3.653 billion kWh of electricity for 66.2 million U.S. dollars, which is 109.4 million kWh fewer in the overall volume of the imported electricity but 10.3 million U.S. dollars more in terms of the amount paid.
Over the same nine-month period, Tajikistan has purchased 177.1 million cubic meters of natural gas for 42.5 million from Uzbekistan, which is 23.2 percent fewer than in the same period of last year.
Over the report period, Tajikistan has exported 54.5 tons of cotton fiber 57.5 million U.S. dollars, which is 6,400 tons fewer than in January-September 2008.
The main trading partners of Tajikistan in regard to its cotton fiber were: Russia – 40.7 percent; Iran – 26.3 percent; Belarus – 5.8 percent; Uzbekistan – 5.7; and Latvia – 5.1 percent.
An average price of one ton of cotton fiber for January-September 2009 amounted to $1,057.
