Festival of Russian literature in Tajikistan

Date:

DUSHANBE, October 8, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Staged by the Education Quality Certification Institute, Moscow State University and Tajik National University on an initiative of Russia’s Agency for Education, a festival of Russian literature was launched in Tajikistan on October 6.

Russian delegation comprising ten teachers from Moscow State University and some other Russian universities have arrived in Dushanbe to attend the festival.

Similar festivals are currently going on in all CIS and Baltic states with support from the Russian Agency for Education.  Ms. Yelena Palitskaya, a teacher at Moscow State University, noted, “We want students in these countries to know Russian well for development of cooperation and scientific ties.”

According to her, more than 100 teachers and students from Tajik universities will receive certificates of short-term course on the Russian language and literature.

Various contests on the Russian language and literature involving some 90 students from various Tajik universities have been organized on sidelines of the festival.  Making special mention of skills of Tajik students, Ms. Palitskaya has noted that some essays written by Tajik students even excel essays by Moscow students in grammatical correctness.

She also pointed out an acute shortage of literature in Russian for universities and schools in Tajikistan.  “The problems of shortage of training literature is very acute in Tajikistan, we have found out this during meetings,” Palitskaya said, adding that she would try to solve that issue and other issues related to the study of Russia in Tajikistan on return to Moscow.

Today, Russian delegation is scheduled to visit one of Russian-language schools in Dushanbe and the Hissar Fortress.
