DUSHANBE, October 7, Asia-Plus — Over the first nine months of this year, Tajikistan’s Railways has purchased 294 new train cars, including 259 cargo cars and 35 passenger carriages, the Tajik Railways head Amonullo Hukumatullo announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on October 7.
He added that they intend to purchase one modern diesel locomotive and 15 modern passenger carriages by the end of this year. According to him, the price of diesel locomotive is 10 million U.S. dollars (without customs clearance) and the price of one such passenger carriage is some 15 million U.S. dollars (without customs clearance). “In the future, we plan to replenish our rolling stock with 100 new cargo cars for a total amount of 400 million U.S. dollars,” Hukumatullo said.
Tajikistan’s rolling-stock now includes 55 diesel locomotives, 2,020 cargo cars and 354 passenger carriages.
At present Tajik Railways offers three routes to the Russian Federation (Dushanbe-Moscow, Kulob-Moscow, Khujand-Saratov) and four domestic routes (Dushanbe-Konibodom, Qurghon Teppa-Konibodom, Dushanbe-Pakhtaobod and Qurghon Teppa-Kulob).
The total length of rails in Tajikistan is 950 kilometers; of that, 680 kilometers are the main railways. At present there are more than 30 railway stations in the republic.
