DUSHANBE, October 7, 2009, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon yesterday received high-ranking representatives of delegations that participated at an international conference dedicated to the 1310th anniversary of Imam Azam, according to presidential press service.

President Rahmon’s meeting with representatives of Iraqi delegation focused on issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and Iraq in different spheres.

Iraqi quests noted that they were interested in studying the method of achieving peace through negotiations on the Tajik model.  Tajik president noted that Tajikistan was ready to provide assistance to Iraq in achieving peace and stability.

Representatives of the Iraqi delegation invited President Rahmon to visit their country and the tomb of Imam in Iraq.

Yesterday, President Rahmon also held talks with Mr. Mehmet Uzkara, Secretary General of the Kimse Yok Mu Foundation of Turkey.  The sides discussed expansion of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

Mr. Uzkara handed over 350,000 U.S. dollars collected by their foundation for disaster-hit people in Khatlon’s Khuroson district to President Rahmon and noted that earlier, they had sent 70,000 U.S. dollars worth of food products to that district.

President Rahmon expressed gratitude for the provided assistance and noted that the funds would go to financing construction of a new school in the Khuroson district.
