DUSHANBE, October 7, 2009, Asia-Plus – Information by some media that Tajikistan allegedly has only 28 known gold deposits containing some 430 tons of gold do not correspondent to the facts, the head of Tajikistan’s Main Geology Directorate (Tajik Geology) Azim Ibrohim announced at a news conference in Dushanbe yesterday.
According to him, there are more than 50 known gold deposits in the central part of the country alone.
Referring to the country’s legislation prohibiting the spread of information about reserves of precious metals, the Tajik Geology head refrained from giving further details about gold deposit and their reserves.
He just said that two gold-mining joint ventures — the Tajik-Chinese Zeravshan Gold Company (ZGC) and the Tajik-Canadian Aprelevka – currently operate in northern Tajikistan and the state-run gold-mining company, Tilloi Tojik (former joint venture Darvoz), under the Ministry of Finance now operates in the south of the country. Besides, three small producers engaged in producing place gold also operate in the south of Tajikistan.
