DUSHANBE, September 10, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The World Bank Group is presenting the Doing Business 2010 report today.

According to the World Bank Dushanbe Office, a video conference with participation of the representatives of the Doing Business Project staying in Washington, appropriate institutions and media is being held today and Tajik journalists participating in the video briefing may know about Tajikistan’s ranking among other economies according to the assessment of World Bank ease of doing business as well as discuss the report’s conclusions and findings.

Doing Business 2010 report is the joint World Bank and IFC flagship publication.  The Doing Business database provides objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement.  Doing Business indicators, comparable across 183 economies, indicate the regulatory costs of business and can be used to analyze specific regulations that enhance or constrain domestic firms.  Doing Business compares regulatory performance in 10 areas, allowing policymakers to learn from global best practices and prioritize reforms.

Economies are ranked on their ease of doing business, from 1 – 183, with first place being the best.  A high ranking on the ease of doing business index means the regulatory environment is conducive to the operation of business.  This index averages the country”s percentile rankings on 10 topics, made up of a variety of indicators, giving equal weight to each topic.  These areas are: starting a business; dealing with constructions permits; employing workers; registering property; getting credit; protecting investors; paying taxes; trading across borders; enforcing contracts; and closing a business.

We will recall that the Doing Business 2009 report, which covered the period June 2007 through May 2008, ranked Tajikistan 159th among 181 economies.
