DUSHANBE, September 5, 2009, Asia-Plus  — This year has seen a breakthrough in relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, Uzbek Ambassador to Tajikistan Shokasym Shoislomov remarked at an official reception on occasion of Uzbekistan’s Independence Day in Dushanbe on September 4.

The ambassador noted that two sessions of the Tajik-Uzbek intergovernmental commission were held this year.  The previous session of the commission was held more than seven years ago.

“The sessions have solved many problems that existed in relations between our countries.  The parliaments of our countries have ratified an interstate agreement on demarcation and delimitation of 85 percent of our common border.  The working group for delineation of the border has completed its work and a final agreement on the common border of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will be singed soon,” Ambassador Shoislomov said.

According to him, positions of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan over energy issues have also drawn nearer this year.

“However, some media do not want to see our achievements in strengthening of fraternal relations despite obvious progress in Uzbek-Tajik relations,” Uzbek diplomat stressed.
