Two detained, two others wanted by police on suspicion of kidnapping

KHUJAND, September 1, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Two residents of Khujand have been detained and two others have been put the police wanted list on suspicion of having been involved in kidnapping, according to the Sughd police directorate.

25-year-old entrepreneur from Khujand Haidar Isroilov and 26-year-old Khujand resident Ikrom Vohidov have been detained on suspicion of having been involved in kidnapping 22-year-old manager of the Dusti Amirkhon limited liability company Akmal Mukhtorov.  Two other residents of Khujand – the 28-year-old Anvar Karimov and the 25-year-old Ilyos Karimov – are currently wanted by local police for involvement in this crime.

Akmal Mukhtorov was reportedly kidnapped on the night of August 26-27.  “The preliminary investigation has established that on the night of August 26-27, unidentified persons in Opel stopped Akmal Mukhtorov who was driving his Honda-Accord,” said the source, “They took Mukhtorov in one of garages in Khujand’s Navrouz neighborhood.  They tied up him and locked in a garage, seizing his mobile phone costing US$600, 400 somoni and his Honda-Accord.  Mukhtorov managed to get out of the garage by himself and applied to the Chkalovsk prosecutor’s office.”

The investigation has established that H. Isroilov, I. Vohidov, A. Karimov and I. Karimov were involved in committing this crime, the source said.
