DUSHANBE, August 25, 2009, Asia-Plus — Efficiency of measures taken by Tajikistan to fight illicit drug trafficking is equal to 7,349 percent of return on investments provided by international organizations for the fight against narcotics, organized crime and terrorism in our country, according to press service of the Drug Control Agency (DCA).
Heroin alone seized in Tajikistan over the past ten years is estimated at 1.2 billion U.S. dollars in prices of Europe’s narcotics black market. In the meantime, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has provided 13.879 million U.S. dollars to the Tajik counternarcotics agency over the report period.
We will recall that the Drug Control Agency under the President o Tajikistan was established in June 1999 with financial support from the United Nations. At present, the DCA activity is partially funded at the expense of UNODC.
