Sughd’s external trade turnover falls 23.4 percent compared to last year

KHUJAND, August 2009, Asia-Plus — Over the first seven months of this year, an external trade turnover of the Sughd province, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 433.8168 million U.S. dollars, which was 76.6 percent of the January-July 2008 level or 132.4516 million dollars fewer, according to the Sughd customs service.

Exports of goods in January-July 2009 amounted to 77.8949 million US dollars, which was 12.5053 percent, or 13.8 percent, fewer than in the same period of 2008.

Imports of goods into the province over the report period have amounted to 355.9219 million U.S. dollars, which was 119.9463 million dollars, or 25.2 percent, fewer than in January-July 2008.

The trade balance was negative and amounted to more than 278 million U.S. dollars.

In January-July 2009, the Sughd province had trade relations with 47 countries of the world, including 10 CIS states.  Over the report period the CIS countries accounted for 62.7 percent (271.9658 million dollars) of Sughd’s external trade turnover and the far abroad countries accounted for 37.3 percent (161.851 million dollars) of the province’s external trade turnover.
