KULOB, August 10, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A competition among Tajik Paralympic powerlifters was held in the southern city of Kulob last weekends, August 8-9.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-plus, Tajikistan’s Paralympic Committee head Safar Boyev said that 30 athletes had competed in three weight categories.

“In the women’s competitions, Rukhshona Nazarova, Adolat Khujamqulova and Sarvinoz Abdulloyeva were recognized winners and Bakhtiyor Khorkashev, Khayrullo Abdurahimov and Dilovar Saidmurodov finished first in the men’s competitions,” Boyev said.

The tournament was held with support from the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs and the Kulob mayor’s office.

“The Federation of Invalid Sport of Tajikistan develops 16 Olympic-type sports and the number of people with physical disabilities wanting to lead an active life is increasing in the country from year to year,” the Paralympic Committee head said.
