KHUJAND, July 27, 2009, Asia-Plus — Over the first six months of this year, Sughd province has received 1.74 million US dollars worth of humanitarian aid, which is 2.34 US dollars, or 57.38 percent, fewer than in the same period of last year, the source at the Sughd customs service said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, 4.08 million US dollars worth of humanitarian aid was delivered to the province in January-June 2008.
“Humanitarian aid has come to the province mainly through the UN World food Program (WFP), German Agro Action (GAA) as well as local non-governmental organizations Sogdiana-777 (Chkalovsk), Shulai Umed (Panjakent) and some others,” the source said.
