Banks in Sughd give 10.5 mln somoni in loans to local cotton farmers so far

KHUJAND, June 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Since the beginning of this year, banks and microlending organizations operating in Sughd province have given 10.5 million somoni in loans to local cotton farmers, which is more than 30 million somoni fewer than in the same period of last year, when 40.6 million somoni were given to local cotton-growing farms, according to the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Khujand.

Loans have been provided by branches of Agroinvestbonk (3.9 million somoni), Amonatbonk (3.9 million somoni) and Eskhata Bank (792,000 somoni) and the remainder has been provided by local microlending organizations, the source at NBT’s branch in Khujand said.
