DUSHANBE, May 29, 2009, Asia-Plus — The Independent School of Journalism “Tajikistan – 21st Century ” (School) is presenting the project titled “Consolidation of Professional Knowledge and Skills of Young Journalists” at Tajik Journalists’ Union today.
The School executive director Safo Safarov said managers of employees of electronic and print media as well as representatives from faculties of journalism at the Dushanbe universities and public associations and international organizations would take part in the event.
The project that is implemented under support of the U.S. Embassy Democracy Commission Small Grants Program and the UNSECO International Program for the Development of Communication provides for conducting training for young inexperienced aspirants on the following subjects: press media; radio and television.
The training, which is free of charge, will be conducted in summer and autumn. The training participants, totaling 120 people, are selected competitively – 60 journalists will take the training in summer and 60 others in autumn. Young journalists aged 18 to 30 may participate in the training. Training will be held twice a week in Tajik and Russian groups.
Known Tajik journalists will conduct the training courses and materials prepared by the training participants will be published in various media. On completion of the training, they will be given certificates and recommended to press and electronic media for the job.
Founded in June 1999, the Independent School of Journalism “Tajikistan – 21st Century” aims to promote improvement of professionalism of journalists, development of Tajikistan’s information market, and strengthening of competitiveness of media. Over the period of its activity, the School has implemented more than 20 projects, including “Tajikistan’s Journalism in New Century”, “Management in Media”, “Journalistic Resource Center” as well as the cross-border project “Tajikistan-Afghanistan: Bridges of Friendship”, etc. As part of the projects, the School has conducted seminars, trainings and training courses on raising professionalism of journalists, instructing media personnel in modern methods of management and marketing, information and computer technologies, norms of journalistic ethics, etc.
