DUSHANBE, May 26, 2009, Asia-Plus — In Tajikistan, inflation for April 2009 stood at 1.1 percent, which is 3.4 percentage points (pct) fewer than in April 2008, according to press service of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).
In April this year, prices of products of food industry decreased by 0.3 percent while prices of non-foodstuffs remained unchanged. In the meantime, prices and rates for services rendered to the population last year increased by 0.7 percent.
Based on current data, the gross domestic product (GDP) for April 2009 amounted to 4.4265 somoni, an increase of 2.0 percent over April 2008 in comparable prices.
Economic growth last occurred last month due to an 8.5 percent increase in production of agricultural goods, a 7.2 percent increase in production in the construction sector, and a 1.7 percent increase in the volume of services, the press service.
