DUSHANBE, May 18, 2009, Asia-Plus — Prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Czech Republic were the focus of a meeting of Sharif Said, Chairman of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), with Jan Cicel, Director General of Czech Company Victoria Project, in Dushanbe on May 15.
According to the CCI press service, Jan Victor Chichel, heading a delegation comprising a number of senior representatives of the company, arrived in Dushanbe to meet with heads of the ministries of energy and industries, economic development and trade, state committee for investments and state-owned property management, housing and communal services enterprise and Dushanbe-based plant Tekstilmash to discuss opportunities of cooperation in the field of energy.
Said and Cicel discussed prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and Victoria Project, which specializes in construction of small and medium-sized hydropower plants.
Said noted that construction of small and medium-sized hydropower plants was one of priorities of development of the energy sector of Tajikistan, which is rich in water-and energy resources.
For his party, Cicel briefed the CCI head on activities of his firm, which was ready not only to supply the hydropower equipment to Tajikistan and construct small plants here but also to invest in those projects. According to him, Victoria Project also constructs waste water treatment facilities. He also noted that supply of medical laboratory trailers as well as shepherd’s travel trailers could be another direction of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation.
Cicel noted that they had previously studied five investment projects for construction of small hydropower plants in the Vahdat district and would like to conduct negotiations with customers.
During their visit to Tajikistan, Victoria Project’s representatives are scheduled to get acquainted with the investment climate in Tajikistan, its entrepreneurship legislation, conduct marketing surveys, study investment projects and determine specific places for construction of hydropower plants, the press service said.
