KHUJAND, May 8, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A new radio station, Avic-Plus (Avic is contracted form of Avicenna, Latinized name of famous Tajik polymath, physician and philosopher Abu Ali ibn Sino (908-1037), is expected to go on the air in Sughd’s Istaravshan district within the next few days.

The founder of the radio station is the Istaravshan-based limited liability society, Health Center Avicenna.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the radio station director Bahrom Yusufzod said they had got a broadcasting license on March 13, 2009.  “The equipment is still being installed and we plan to go on the air within the next few days,” Yusufzod said.

Avicenna will broadcast on the FM frequency – 106.1 FM.  The radio station will run programs in Tajik and Russian and residents of the city of Istaravshan and neighboring Ghonchi, Zafarobod and Shahriston districts will be able to pick up Avicenna’s programs.

Two FM radio stations currently function in northern Tajikistan – Tiroz and Tiroz-Plus.
