KHOROG, January 20, 2011, Asia-Plus — In a report released at a news conference in Khorog, the chief of the Drug Control Agency (DCA)’s office in Gorno Badakhshan, Marodusein Aliyorov, noted on January 19 that compared to 2009 the amount of narcotics seized in the region last year nearly halved.
“In 2010, the GBAO law enforcement agencies seized 72.4 kilograms of narcotics, which is 70 kilograms fewer that in 2009,” Aliyorov said.
According to him, decrease in amount of seized narcotics does not mean that the drug trafficking is showing a downward tendency in the region, “most likely, it means that local power-wielding structures have just weakened fight against drug trafficking.”
