DUSHANBE, February 28, 2011, Asia-Plus — A drug cache has been discovered on the outskirts of Dushanbe.
According to the Interior Ministry, a drug cache was discovered under the bridge on the outskirts of Dushanbe on February 26. Three packages containing narcotic drug that tested positive to cannabis weighing 5.232 kilograms were extracted from the hide.
On February 27, Kulob resident, E.G., 26, was detained on suspicion of drug peddling. 38.20 kilograms of cannabis were found hidden in a basement of his house. E.G. and his accomplice S.R. have been arrested and criminal proceedings have been instituted against them.
On the same day, Khujand resident, Sh.G., was detained in Bobojonghafurov district (Sughd province). 842 grams of heroin were confiscated from him. On February 23 and 26, undercover police agents posing as drug dealers bought from him 9.106 kilograms of hashish for US$3,000 and 868 grams of heroin for US$5,000, the source said. Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug peddler and an investigation is under way.
