DUSHANBE, February 28, 2011, Asia-Plus — Two police officers have been beaten in Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province while attempting to detain four robbers.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the incident took place Saturday night.  Two police officers on duty spotted and tried to detain four unknown persons who were breaking a pos-terminal, but the culprits resisted detention and attacked the police officer.  “They seized 300 somoni and ID card of one of the police officers and escaped,” the source at a MoI said.

The culprits who proved to be local unemployed residents aged 22 to 29 were detained on the same day.  They withdrew 95 somoni from the pos-terminal, while damage caused by them is estimated at more than 9,000 somoni.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against them and an investigation is under way.
