Ex-deputy commander of Tajik border troops sentenced to 16 years in prison

DUSHANBE, February 28, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Ex-deputy commander of Tajik border troops Saymuddin Mirzoyev has got a long jail term for large-scale bribery.

The Supreme Court sentenced Saymuddin Mirzoyev to 16 years in prison at the end of last week.  The sentence followed his conviction on charges of large–scale bribery, the source at the Supreme Court told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon.

Saymuddin Mirzoyev, 40, was caught red-handed last spring while taking a US$15,000 bribe for concealment of a drug-trafficking related crime.

“Investigation has establishment that Mirzoyev had previously also taken bribe (US$30,000) for similar crime,” the source added.
