DUSHANBE, March 26, 2011, Asia-Plus — Rustam Emomali has vacated his seat in the Dushanbe legislature (Majlis) after being appointed to a senior position within the State Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan.
Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office, says the session of the Dushanbe legislature that took place on March 25 made a decision on termination of powers of Rustam Emomali as member of the legislature in connection with his transfer to work with the customs service.
The customs service is a law enforcement agency and under the country’s law on elections to local councils, employees of law enforcement agencies may not be members of legislatures.
