QURGHON TEPPA, May 26, 2011, Asia-Plus — The Khatlon prosecutor’s office has completed investigation into case launched against the chief of the criminal investigation squad at the Vakhsh police station, Jaffar Mirzosharifov, and the case has moved to a court.
Bakhtiyor Haidarov, an investigator with the Khatlon prosecutor’s office, says Mirzosharifov is charged with use of violence and illegal detention.
According to him, local resident Mahmadsharif Sharipov, being in a state of drunkenness, was detained on November 4, 2010, at 9:40 pm on suspicion of disorderly conduct. “He was taken to the police station, where Mirzosharifov began to beat Sharipov, inflicting slight bodily injuries on him that is confirmed by the findings of the forensic medical examination of November 8, 2010. He ordered to lock Sharipov up in his office and not to release without his permission.”
According Haidarov, Mahmadsharif Sharipov was released only next day after interference of his brother Avaz Sharipov, who was deputy chief of the Vakhsh police station.
“On December 14, 2010, the Khatlon prosecutor’s office has instituted criminal proceedings against Mirzosharifov under the provisions of two articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 316 (3) – abuse of power; and Article 358 (1) – illegal detention or illegally taking into custody,” Haidarov said.
