DUSHANBE, July 1, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Customs Officers from the Nizhny Panj

border checkpoint on the Tajik side of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border on June 30 prevented smuggling of a large consignment of adornments having a special artistic value, the Customs Service press center reports.

“An inspection of persons proceeding via the checkpoint from Tajikistan to Afghanistan found a large consignment of adornments having a special artistic value in luggage belonging to two Turkish nationals,” said the source, “They attempted to remove 153 suzani (a type of embroidered and decorative textile), three pairs of earrings, two necklaces, three bracelets and 17 hair adornments from Tajikistan without appropriate documents.”

According to experts from the Ministry of Culture (MoC) the confiscated things date to late 19th and 20th centuries and have a special artistic value, he added.
