DUSHANBE, July 18, 2011, Asia-Plus — Some 70 cases of illegal delivery of oil products to Tajikistan have been registered over the first six months of this year, Nemat Rahmatov, deputy head of the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 18.

According to him, some 2.5 million liters of contraband fuels have been seized in Tajikistan over the first six months of this year.  “A toted included 1.485 million liters diesel fuel, 876,000 liters of gasoline and 134 liters of lubricants,” Rahmatov noted.

Over the same six-month period, Tajikistan has reportedly imported 255,700 tons of oil products, with 131,300 tons of them being gasoline.

“Russia, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan  have provided the bulk of Tajikistan’s fuel imports over the report period,” said Rahmatov.  “Russia accounted for 84 percent of the overall amount of fuels imported into Tajikistan in January-June this year, Turkmenistan accounted for 13 percent and Kazakhstan accounted for 3.0 percent.”

Tajik customs officials noted that Tajikistan did not imported oil products from Turkmenistan last year.
