QURGHON TEPPA, July 20, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Young people who have returned home from religious schools abroad should continue education in Tajikistan, Mahmadullo Saydaliyev, chairman of Khatlon’s Danghara district, told reporters in Danghara on July 19.

“Detention and persecution of these young men will not help resolve the problem,” said Saydaliyev, “Officials and other administrators must take efforts to re-educate them, create job or education opportunities for the former students.”

According to him, all 28 young men from Danghara who were studying at foreign madrasahs have returned home.  “Several of them are currently studying at Tajik Agricultural University and several others have been called up for military service,” the Dangahra mayor.

Asked about measures taken local authorities to curb artificially increasing prices for food products, Saydaliyev said that the district officials were closely working on this subject with administrators of local bazaar and entrepreneurs.

“I am controlling this process personally.  For example, hucksters buy apples from farmers in the Sargazon village at the rate of 80 diram (0.80 somoni) per one kilogram and sell them in Danghara at the rate of 3.00-4.00 somoni per kilogram,” said Saydaliyev, “It is the same situation for meat prices.  I have ordered all jamoat heads to control the situation.”

The Danghara mayor added that the housing problem would be resolved in the district by 2015.  “By government’s decree 1,800 hectares are allocated from housing stock to Danghara for housing.  To-date, we have established two new settlements and several other new settlements will be established in the district due to development of new lands.”
